aka Tropical Golden Glow

I created this smoothie on one of those mornings where my body was practically begging me for a reset. I’d been traveling for two weeks straight — living off airport food and late-night snacks — and I could feel the sluggishness in every cell. I pulled out my blender, grabbed a ripe pineapple from the counter, and started tossing in everything golden and bright I could find. The first sip was like sunshine flooding through my veins. Now it’s my go-to whenever I need to hit the refresh button, and honestly, it tastes so tropical and creamy you’d never guess it’s doing serious detox work behind the scenes.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh pineapple chunks (about half a medium pineapple)
  • 1 cup coconut water (pure, no added sugar)
  • 1 medium banana, frozen
  • 1-inch piece fresh turmeric root, peeled (or 1 tsp ground turmeric)
  • 1/2-inch piece fresh ginger root, peeled
  • 1 tablespoon raw honey
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper (activates curcumin)
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil, melted and slightly cooled
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional, for extra kick)
  • 1/2 cup ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Prep your base: Add the coconut water and frozen banana to a high-speed blender first — this helps everything blend evenly and creates a smooth, creamy base.
  2. Add the golden ingredients: Toss in the fresh pineapple chunks, peeled turmeric root, peeled ginger, and lemon juice. If using ground turmeric instead of fresh, add it now.
  3. Sweeten and spice: Drizzle in the raw honey, melted coconut oil, black pepper, and cayenne if using. The black pepper is key — it increases turmeric absorption by up to 2,000%.
  4. Blend until silky: Blend on high for 60–90 seconds until completely smooth and no chunks remain. Add ice cubes and blend for another 15 seconds until frothy and cold.
  5. Taste and adjust: Give it a taste — add more honey if you like it sweeter, or an extra squeeze of lemon for brightness. The flavor should be bright, tropical, and slightly warm from the ginger and turmeric.
  6. Pour and enjoy: Pour into a tall glass and drink immediately for maximum nutrient benefit. Garnish with a pineapple wedge or a light dusting of turmeric powder if you’re feeling fancy.

Tips

  • Fresh turmeric root gives the best color and flavor, but ground turmeric works in a pinch — just use 1 teaspoon.
  • Freeze your pineapple chunks ahead of time for an even thicker, frostier smoothie — then skip the ice cubes.
  • Turmeric stains everything it touches, so rinse your blender immediately after pouring.
  • This smoothie is best consumed right away, but you can store it in a sealed mason jar in the fridge for up to 24 hours — just shake well before drinking.
  • For a protein boost, add a scoop of your favorite clean collagen peptides or hemp seeds.
